HYPCUP 2016 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT COMPETITION

THEME: Architecture in Transformation
TOPIC: Concept and Notation
JURY CHAIRMAN: Bernard Tschumi

The competition aims at searching and constructing human space with a sense of place in the increasingly fragmented cities and unordered villages, exploring environment-friendly and sustainable ideas in the information age, and integrating creative design concepts with solid basic skills effectively in architectural education. The competition requires the participants to make detailed examinations and reflections on architectural history, exploring complicated requirements to architecture and environment by current users, pay attention to events in specific sites, and configure viable urban and architectural spaces.

Coastlines has many features and these features give some cities an arhitectural identity. Samsun, the city that we focus on, has a long coastline which includes many commercial and public places. This publicity and sea connection distinguish the coastline from any other sites. Although this difference, about 30 kilometer long coastline has its own monotonty. In other words, same action and same experience make the coastline monotone.

With these continuity of the coastline; boundaries and spaces are designed for changing the characteristics of movement without restricting it. So this design takes the “boundaries” as the design concept and uses it to characterize the area.
Arhitecture is deeply connect with the boundaries and wall ,as an architectural element, must have been questioned in that occasion. How arhitecture could transform these elements was a main question. With the method of formation which is born from floor's transformation idea; walls are occured  from floor and then canopy too.In these design, an alternative creation for wall’s structural and architectural feautures is tried to be invented.

Each part added in ground leads to different action and different programs.  For changing the sense of the place, we focused on a museum program and the idea of exhibition. Considering the museum's function of protection, we give a value to the building more than exhibited objects. For this reason, there is nothing to exhibit in this museum except the museum itself. In this museum, space, light and sound of the place will be exhibited.
